Storytelling for Action: Introduction to Talking to Policymakers

Date:
Friday, September 19th, 2014 from 12:00pm to 1:00pm
Location:
Online

This free online workshop is the first in a two-part series on nonprofit advocacy. This first session is designed to provide an introduction to nonprofit advocacy for nonprofit staff or board members who do not currently engage in advocacy, or who have just begun to advocate but want more “rules of the road” and tips.

Nonprofits move forward a mission within a context of a bigger cause, a broader policy environment, and a deeper set of individuals who could help if the right relationships were in place. Legislators, their staff, and other people of influence have the potential to unlock funding or guide policy if they were to better understand the stories of nonprofits and the people with whom those organizations work.

Washington Nonprofits is partnering with the Statewide Poverty Action Network and WA Community Action Partnerships on this two-part series in order to:

  • demystify nonprofit advocacy,
  • do away with the misinformation about nonprofits not being able to engage with policymakers, and
  • deliver a set of tools aimed at helping nonprofit leaders to advance how they tell their stories for action.
